Turning is a method of cutting a workpiece on a lathe by rotating the workpiece relative to the tool. Turning is a basic and common cutting method. Most of the workpiece with a rotating surface can be processed by turning methods, due to the development of modern science and technology, a variety of high-strength, high-hardness engineering materials are more and more used, traditional turning technology is not capable of or can not achieve some high-strength, high-hardness materials processing, but modern hard turning technology makes it possible, and the benefits are obvious in production. Below, let's look at the characteristics of CNC turning workpiece processing technology.

First, CNC turning workpiece processing tool selection

(1) Coated carbide cutting tools

The coated carbide cutting tool is coated with one or more layers of a coating with good wear resistance on the carbide cutting tool with good toughness. The coating usually plays the following two roles: on the one hand, its thermal conductivity is much lower than the tool base and the workpiece material, reducing the generation of cutting heat. Compared with cemented carbide tools, the strength, hardness and wear resistance of coated cemented carbide tools have been greatly improved.

(2) Ceramic material tools

Ceramic tool has the characteristics of high hardness, high strength, good wear resistance, good chemical stability, good adhesion, low friction coefficient and low price. In normal use, durability is very high.

(3) cubic boron nitride tool

The hardness and wear resistance of cubic boron nitride are second only to diamond, and it has excellent high temperature hardness. Compared with ceramic tools, its heat resistance and chemical stability are slightly poor, but its impact strength and crushing resistance are better. It is widely used in the processing of hardened steel, pearlitic gray cast iron, chilled cast iron, superalloy, etc.

Second, CNC turning workpiece processing cutting oil selection

(1) Tool steel tools have poor heat resistance and loss of hardness at high temperatures, so they need cutting oil with good cooling performance, low viscosity and good fluidity.

(2) When high-speed steel tools are used for high-speed rough cutting, the cutting amount is large and a lot of cutting heat is generated, and a well-cooled cutting oil should be used.

(3) carbide cutting tools have higher melting point and hardness, better chemical stability and thermal stability, machinability and wear resistance than high-speed steel tools are much better, and active sulfur cutting oil can be used in general processing.

(4) Ceramic tools and diamond tools generally use passivated vulcanized cutting oil with lower viscosity to ensure the surface finish of the workpiece.

The above is the characteristics of CNC turning workpiece processing technology have precautions, reasonable selection of tools and cutting oil products can significantly improve the quality of the workpiece.
