Metal buffer damper is a device that provides a resistance to movement and consumes energy for movement. In aerospace, aviation, military, guns, automobiles and other industries have long been through the application of various forms of dampers (or shock absorbers) to reduce vibration and energy consumption. People have begun to gradually apply these information technologies to the structural design engineering of Chinese buildings, Bridges, railways, etc., and its development has been very economical and rapid. In particular, the hydraulic viscous damper, which has more than 50 years of social history, has undergone a large number of relevant experiments, strict review and repeated demonstration before being accepted by the structural engineering community in the United States, especially for the long learning process of earthquake tests.

A device capable of rapidly stopping a moving part of an instrument in a stable deflection position. In seismic instruments, the damper is used to absorb the vibration energy inherent in the vibration system, and its damping force is generally proportional to the motion speed of the vibration system. There are three types of liquid damper, gas damper and electromagnetic damper. Metal buffer dampers Dampers play an important role in compensating small friction and air resistance in pendulum systems and improving frequency response.

In gravity shelf storage, because the goods are affected by gravity, the accelerated movement in the inclined storage slide, if the goods are allowed to move freely, the goods hit the shelf, which may cause damage to the goods, bring safety risks to the operator, and damage the overall structure of the shelf. Metal buffer damper plays a very important role in it, the damper on the gravity shelf, also known as the reducer, is mainly used to eliminate the acceleration of gravity generated by the goods on the gravity shelf, so that the goods smoothly and slowly slide along the track to eliminate safety hazards. To ensure the safety of goods and operators, metal buffer dampers can be divided into external and internal damping types.

Taipei 101 uses a new mega-structure with eight columns on each side of the building. Each column, 3 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, stretches from five underground floors to 90 above ground, filled with high-density concrete and covered with steel plates. Taiwan is located in an earthquake zone, in the Taipei Basin, there are three small faults, in order to build Taipei 101, the building is designed to prevent damage caused by strong earthquakes. While Taiwan is affected by typhoons in the Pacific Ocean every summer, earthquakes and windbreaks are the two main problems that Taipei 101 has to overcome. To assess the impact of the earthquake on Taipei 101, geologist Chen Dou-sheng began exploring geological formations near the planned site. Well 4 found a 10-meter-thick fault 101,200 meters off Taipei. Based on these data, the Earthquake Engineering Research Center of Taiwan Province has built models of different scales to simulate what might happen to buildings during earthquakes. The center of Taipei 101 consists of eight massive steel columns to increase the building's flexibility and avoid damage from strong earthquakes.

But good elasticity also exposes the building to the problem of wind shock, that is, shaking. Metal buffer dampers are the main design to counteract wind induced shaking, and the zigzag shape of the building can reduce wind induced shaking by 30-40% through wind tunnel tests.
